Tien Vo MD, is a physician, healthcare entrepreneur, community leader, and philanthropist based in El Centro, California. He is the founder and Medical Director of Legacy MD Medical Group, a multi-specialty medical organization that provides comprehensive, community-centered care across the Imperial Valley and Coachella Valley.
Dr. Tien Vo is also the founder of EasyAccess Care IPA, an Independent Physician Association that partners with multiple health plans — including Molina, Brand New Day, Astiva, and Clever — to expand healthcare access for underserved populations in Imperial County and beyond.
Born in Vietnam, Tien VO MD arrived in the United States in 1992 at the age of 16 as a refugee. He spoke little English and faced enormous cultural and academic challenges. Despite these obstacles, he pursued his dream of becoming a physician with extraordinary determination — enrolling at Magnolia High School while simultaneously taking community college classes at Cypress College to catch up academically. After earning his degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, Riverside, he attended Ross University School of Medicine, earning his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree before completing his Internal Medicine residency at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York.
The Associated Press famously described him as a “rock star doctor” for his tireless efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he and his wife conducted more than 27,000 coronavirus tests, made house calls to quarantined patients, and delivered meals to those in need.

From Vietnam to America — a refugee’s journey to becoming one of the most recognized healthcare leaders in Imperial County.
The story of Tien VO MD is one of resilience, determination, and unwavering commitment to service. Born in Vietnam, he arrived in the United States in 1992 at the age of 16 as a refugee. The early years were challenging — he enrolled at Magnolia High School in Anaheim, California, where he had to learn English while simultaneously taking community college classes at Cypress College.
“That was just a hurdle, not a permanent blocker. I committed to overcoming it and didn’t give up. You can’t look at a challenge in a negative way if you want to succeed.”
After completing his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at UC Riverside, he enrolled at Ross University School of Medicine in the Caribbean. Despite it taking him four times as long to read and study as his peers, he excelled academically. He completed his residency at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in New York, then eventually settled in El Centro, where he founded Vo Medical Center in 2014 — later rebranded as Legacy MD Medical Group in January 2024.
When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Imperial County was devastated with the highest infection rate in California. Dr. Vo and his wife sprang into action, earning him the nickname “rock star doctor” from the Associated Press. Today, he continues building his legacy through expanded healthcare services, clinical research, and scholarship programs that help students across the country achieve their dreams.

Tien VO MD continues to lead Legacy MD Medical Group in its mission to provide comprehensive, community-centered care. He is actively expanding services with a focus on cardiac rehabilitation, mammography, and clinical research through the Legacy MD Research Institute.
